ICC World Cup 2023: Schedule and Venue Announced
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is gearing up to unveil the schedule for the much-anticipated World Cup, scheduled to take place in India this year.
According to reports, the semi-finals will be held in Mumbai and Chennai, while the final will be hosted at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It is noteworthy that the high-profile Pakistan vs India match is set to take place at the Modi Stadium.
It has come to light that Pakistan has expressed reservations about playing a World Cup match in Mumbai due to security concerns, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has conveyed these concerns to the ICC.
If the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, qualifies for the semi-finals, there is a strong possibility that their knockout game will be held in Mumbai. In the event of a Pakistan-India semi-final match, Kolkata is likely to be the chosen venue. Should Pakistan advance to the semi-finals, they are keen to play their match in Kolkata.
Pakistan's concerns stem from previous incidents, such as the pitch vandalism by an Indian right-wing party at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium ahead of a Pakistan match in 1991, which led to the cancellation of the tour. Similarly, members of the Shiv Sena party damaged New Delhi's Feroze Shah Kotla stadium in 1999.
