Protests Erupt in Varanasi Over Soaring Tomato Prices
Demurrers have erupted in the Varanasi quarter of Uttar Pradesh due to the significant increase in tomato prices. Ajay Fauji, a leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP) known as Ajay Yadav, organized these protests.
To protect the precious tomatoes, Ajay Fauji hired bouncers and made headlines. He explained that the high prices had resulted in theft and arguments, leading him to take this step for security. The presence of bouncers at the shop became a spectacle and attracted media attention.
On July 10, a shop was observed displaying signs with messages like "Payment first, tomatoes latterly" and "Please don't touch tomatoes and chillies." To guard the precious tomatoes, uniformed security guards were hired and posted at the shop.
