Kia Picanto Facelift: Exterior, Interior, Mechanicals, and Safety
When it comes to compact, entry-position megacity cars, Suzuki is a popular choice, but there are also options from brands like Kia and Hyundai. Kia Picanto, also known as Kia Morning in South Korea, is a similar model from Kia, and it's the lowest model in the brand's portfolio. The first generation went into production in 2003. Picanto is Kia's popular A-segment megacity car and a stylish option targeting young and first-time car buyers.
Picanto has been successful in multiple European countries, and every generation receives design input from KIA's European design team. In Pakistan, we currently have the second generation of Picanto in the market since 2011. This blog post might not be directly relevant to us, but it will be a good read for current Picanto owners or Kia brand followers.
Exterior
The facelifted Picanto features new exterior styling. As per Kia, they have introduced their "Opposite United" design philosophy to this model. The facelift carries over the proportions but includes an all-new front and rear, taking inspiration from the flagship EV9, a three-row electric SUV. There's a new barracuda-nose grille, a vertically stacked headlight module with DRLs, a new front bumper and grille, an all-new bonnet, and front bumpers. The rear also features new LED lighting, including a light bar across the range. The rear door/tailgate and bumper are slightly redesigned. Overall, Picanto now looks ultramodern, bolder, and everyday.
Interior
While the exterior received a major makeover, the interior got minor updates in terms of graphics, and the overall layout remains the same as before. Kia promises improved materials and more standard features. There's an 8" infotainment screen with new and streamlined software. Lower trims will have a smaller screen size. Apple CarPlay & Android Auto are available. Kia Connect is also an option that provides onboard services like live traffic, weather updates, vehicle position, onboard vehicle diagnostics and health reports, and more. Picanto now offers an advanced voice-guided navigation system that supports over-the-air updates. Other features include a digital 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster, HVAC controls, fabric or artificial leather seating, sunroof on higher trims, heated seats and steering, power-folding side view mirrors, remote engine start, and wireless charging.
Mechanicals
As for mechanicals, there will be two engine options: a 1.0L MPI three-cylinder and a 1.2L MPI four-cylinder engine. No details on power numbers are provided, but it is anticipated that the 1.0L engine will offer around 66hp, and the 1.2L variant will offer around 83hp. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic. Safety features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Following Assist, Independent Cornering Brake Control, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, emergency stop signal, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill launch assist, and 7 airbags. Kia has also improved Picanto's structural integrity and stiffness with fresh hot stamping on the front subframe and the B-pillar.
Price
The pricing for the refreshed Picanto is yet to be released by Kia Global, but it will soon be available in Korea, Australia, and European markets with a base price of around $20,000.
