Meta Platforms, previously known as Facebook, is preparing to launch Threads, a new application intended to compete with Twitter. This decision comes shortly after Twitter CEO Elon Musk received backlash for imposing restrictions on the number of posts users can access on the platform. Threads, set to debut on Thursday, will enable users to retain their followers from Instagram and utilize the same username.
With the introduction of Threads, Meta Platforms aims to challenge Twitter's market dominance, despite the controversies surrounding the platform since Musk's acquisition for $44 billion in 2022. While other similar platforms have gained some level of popularity, none have been able to achieve the same level of success as Twitter.
Meta Platforms is counting on Instagram's substantial user base and its history of successfully introducing new features to establish a significant presence in the microblogging industry.
