US Ambassador Donald Blome has emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Washington and Islamabad through the US-Pakistan "Green Alliance" framework.
Visit to Karachi
During his visit to Karachi from June 22 to 24, Ambassador Blome engaged with various stakeholders to promote stronger ties between the United States and Pakistan.
Celebrating US Independence Day
Ambassador Blome, along with Consul General Nicole Theriot, joined Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other political, business, and civil society leaders in Karachi to celebrate the 247th US Independence Day, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Pakistan.
Advancing Trade and Partnership
In his meeting with the Sindh chief minister, Ambassador Blome discussed opportunities to expand US-Pakistan trade and economic partnership, as well as other shared priorities. He also visited the Joint Maritime Information Command Centre (JMICC) to enhance maritime peace and stability in the region.
Facilitating Economic Growth
Ambassador Blome engaged with industry leaders at the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) and American Business Council (ABC), focusing on facilitating private sector-led, equitable, and sustainable economic growth through the US-Pakistan "Green Alliance" framework.
Promoting Bilateral Interests
Highlighting the significance of US-Pakistan relations, Ambassador Blome emphasized the potential for advancing shared interests in trade, investment, clean energy, health security, climate change, inclusive governance, and regional security during his speech at the Pakistan Council on Foreign Relations.
Maritime Security Cooperation
Ambassador Blome expressed the desire to strengthen maritime security cooperation with the Pakistan Navy, aiming to secure freedom of navigation in international waters to facilitate economic activity in the region and globally.
The Way Forward
Amid discussions about the future, the US inquired about Pakistan's fallback option in case the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program ends without disbursing the remaining loan tranche. Pakistani authorities are actively seeking a "Plan B" to address this potential scenario.

Recent developments, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington and an emerging non-confrontational path between the US and China, indicate shifting regional dynamics.
